Soft Cover Options
Soft cover, also known as paperback, works for an endless amount of choices, such as fiction, non-fiction, textbooks,  directories, calendars, magazines, manuals, reports, and catalogs. It can be laminated or coated for a variety of finishes and effects. The book block is compiled and glued to a thick stock paper spine.

        Binding Choices

Thermal or Perfect

  • Pages scored and folded in half then hot glued to the spine of the cover.
  • Paperbacks of all kinds use this technique. Novels, non-fiction, motivational books, etc.
Double Wire-O or Twin Loops

 

  • A metal ring-type binding.
  • Used popularly for cookbooks, company manuals, educational m aterials, or workbooks.
  • Books lay flat when open.
  • Cover can wrap around the spine for easy viewing of one page at a time.
  • Comes in a variety of special order colors.

Plasticoil

  • A plastic spiral loops through multiple holes
  • Available in black, white, and many colors.
  • Cover can fold around the back for easy viewing of one page at a time.  

3/4/5 Drill for Ring Binders

  • Similar to  twin loops and plasticoil.
  • Lays flat open on a table, for viewing right and left pages simultaneously.
  • Cookbooks, reference manuals, conference material, or educational work that needs to be inexpensively bound.
  • Allows you to add or subtract pages at will. 

Saddle Stitching

  • Papers are scored and stapled in the center.
  • For catalogs, signature booklets, and magazines.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

   Cover Weight Choices

8 point- suggested for saddle stitching as used in catalogs, booklets, and magazines.

10 point- Used in perfect binding as well as for catalogs, booklets, and magazines.

12 point- used in perfect binding, wire-o, and plasticoil as well. Seen more commonly in works of fiction, manuals, or motivational books.

Linen 100 lb.- has a honeycomb finish to enhance cover texture of art books and postcard mailers. Does not require any laminating and is therefore environmentally friendly.


Coatings for Covers

Offer protection for covers and comes in gloss or matte. We coat the exterior side only.

UV Coating (Gloss or Matte)

  • For posters and soft covers.
  • Prevents yellowing from exposure to light.
  • Best on lighter colored illustrated covers.
